FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW LONG WILL MY REPAIR TAKE?
This is probably the biggest point of contention in the clock repair profession. Every repair is unique, sometimes
parts need to be ordered or fabricated, sometimes final adjustments can take much extra time. I do not promise
any completion dates. Some clocks may be done in a few weeks, and some may take six months or more. My
basic answer is: "It's done when it's done."
DO YOU DO ALL THE WORK YOURSELF, OR "SEND OUT" SOME REPAIRS?
I do all the cleaning, pivot polishing, rebushing, repivoting, assembly and testing myself in my shop. There are
certain occasional repairs which I take to a specialist. Some work is best done by an expert in a specialty field,
someone who does nothing but one kind of very difficult job. Examples of this are gear cutting, platform
escapement work, reverse glass painting, some case repairs and dial restoration. I use only the best in their field,
and they produce results which no generalist can match.
WHAT KIND OF GUARANTEE DO YOU PROVIDE?
For the text of my guarantee click on the guarantee tab. I fully stand behind my work and my guarantees.
When a situation is "on the fence" whether it is covered by the guarantee or not, I give the customer the benefit of
the doubt. What I will NOT do is honor a guarantee when the problem is caused by ABUSE or when someone
else has worked on the clock after me, whether a qualified clock repairer or not. If you have dropped the clock on
the floor, gotten water in it, let your 3 year old nephew play with it, or taken it to the jeweler down the street,
please DO NOT send it to me expecting a no-charge repair. (And I WILL know.)
DO YOU ACCEPT CLOCKS FROM OUTSIDE THE U.S.?
Sorry, at this time we only take orders from inside the U.S.
DOES THE REPAIR COST EVER EXCEED THE ESTIMATE?
There are very rare occasions when I discover a major problem that I was unable to see when I examined your
clock for the estimate. If I am forced to revise the estimate upward, I will email you with the price difference. If you
decline the repair at the higher price, I will reassemble your clock, unrepaired, and return it to you. Your only cost
will be the return shipping. I generally absorb additional unexpected labor costs. But if a major part is broken, I
may not be able to absorb the cost. I try my utmost to avoid these situations, as they benefit neither me nor you.
WHAT IF I HAVE TROUBLE WITH MY CLOCK AFTER YOUR HAVE REPAIRED IT?
Call Me First! The great majority of problems after repair are due to minor errors in setting the clock up or
minor adjustment errors that occur in shipping. These problems can usually be solved simply by a phone call to
me. If there is a fault with the repair that requires my attention and that is covered by the guarantee, send the
clock back to me. I will correct the problem and ship it back to you.
WHAT IF THE CLOCK IS DAMAGED IN SHIPPING?
Damage in shipping is ALWAYS a matter to be handled between the customer and the shipper. Contact
whatever company shipped the clock for instructions on what to do.
MY HOWARD MILLER OR RIDGEWAY CLOCK IS MALFUNCTIONING AND IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. WHAT
DO I DO?
I am a Factory Authorized Service Center for both Howard Miller and Ridgeway. Contact me first and describe
the problem. If it is not something that can corrected by phone, you can send me the clock. If the problem with
the clock meets the conditions of the manufacturer's warranty, I can repair it at no charge to you except round-trip
shipping.
